However, with Android Auto I have noticed different phones perform differently. I just switched, CarPlay isn’t perfect, truth is neither one are that good. CarPlay is much nicer to use overall anymore IMO. ![]() So yeah… for me AA has really fallen down over the last couple years. Google Maps will not automatically switch to dark mode at night time, whereas both Apple Maps and Google Maps do so without issue on CarPlay. I use the Apple Music app and AA doesn’t offer controls on the screen to “like” or “dislike” songs, while CarPlay does.ĪA seems to use a lot more of my phone battery than an iPhone with CarPlay does. Their version of showing both music controls and map info at the same time sucks compared to how it’s done in CarPlay. It takes much longer for my music playback to begin in comparison to CarPlay (from when I start my car). I have to press the AA button on my head unit’s screen for it to activate. But Android Auto has just gotten bad over the last couple years for me, so I finally made the decision to dump it permanently and just stick with iOS and CarPlay. I’d been flipping regularly between Android and iOS for several years as I tend to prefer Android when it comes to the operating system itself. Considering Google has let WearOS and Stadia and Messaging everything, go under developed, its obvious it stems from the top.Īndroid Auto was the deciding factor for me to go with my iPhone 13 Pro Max due to what a lesser, crappier experience it is compared to CarPlay. Ive been told its the car manufacturers fault for most of Android Autos issues, but to me it stems from Google not incentivizing the auto manufacturers enough to properly support it. Android Auto uses less than half the display and is pixelated and crunchy with frequent random disconnects. On my Kia Soul on a 10.25" display, Carplay works great and looks excellent. CarPlay works great and looks great, Android Auto? Same pixelated crunchy mess. On my wifes Toyota, she has the same experience. Android Auto always looks pixelated and crunchy (its the only way i can put it) and of course the random disconnects. On my VW Golf R, CarPlay looks and works better. Android Auto has always been a complete disaster compared to CarPlay. ![]() I have been using both on and off as i like to switch between both platforms on a whim.
